Make your dead PC alive using Raspberry Pi3

Things you need to have for this task,

  1. An old monitor with VGA or HDMI port.
  2. USB keyboard and mouse.
  3. VGA to HDMI cable (incase of VGA monitor).
  4. Raspberry Pi 3.
  5. Micro SD card.

Some details about Raspberry Pi 3,

  • Third generation of Raspberry Pi series.
  • Comes with a Quad-Core 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM.
  • Wifi and Bluetooth modules.
  • HDMI,LAN,USB support.
  • Operates on 5V,2A supply.
Setting up your Raspberry Pi,

If you are new to Pi,i suggest you to download NOOBS from the official site.->link  Or you could use any supported OS.After downloading you will get a .zip file.Extract the zip and paste those files in the root directory of SD card. Now insert SD card to your Pi.

Connect a 5v supply to micro USB port(i'm using a mobile charger),connect keyboard and mouse to the usb ports. Also use HDMI port to add the monitor.

Now you are ready to go,

Starting the system,

Turn on the Pi and monitor, you will see a OS setup GUI, select raspbian OS(based on debian and officially released by Raspberry Pi community) and click on install.

Wait for installation to get over, and reboot the system.

Default Raspbian user name is "Pi" and password is "raspberry".

Pi can be used as regular linux system and it is efficient to carryout daily tasks. You can add a USB HDD if you want.
